Instructional Volunteer Descriptions

ABE Tutor —Tutor English-speaking adults in reading, writing, computing, and life skills on-site at the Literacy Source Learning Center in Fremont.

Citizenship Tutor —Work one-to-one or in small groups with immigrant and refugee students who are studying for their naturalization exam. Citizenship Tutors work on English instruction (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) as well as on government, history, and civics. Positions may be on or off-site.

Mock Interviewer: Volunteers needed for one-time mock citizenship interview workshops in South King County.  Mock Interviewers can lead or assist at 2 hour workshops once or twice a month.  Dates vary.

Computer Tutor —Tutor computer skills in a one to one setting to ABE and ESL students onsite at Literacy Source in Fremont. Help learners get familiar with basic computer use, internet, email, typing, and skill building programs like Rosetta Stone. The goal of our program is to help students build transferable skills they will to use to succeed in work and life.

Computer tutors are expected to commit to providing instruction for either one or two hours per week, and will meet with students at the same time every week. Computer tutors are needed Monday-Thursday, during the morning, afternoon, or evening.

ESL Tutor —Teach English as a Second Language (ESL) learners in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills individually or in small groups, on-site at Literacy Source in Fremont or off-site in locations throughout greater King County.

Daytime math instructor that is willing to work with multi-level ESL students on basic math operations including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, handling cash and making change

ESL Classroom Assistant —Help the ESL Class Instructor(s) with large/small group activities and work with individual students to help them keep pace with the class.

KCCF Tutor —Teach basic literacy or English as a Second Language to inmates at the King County Correctional Facility in downtown Seattle.

Talk Time Facilitator —Facilitate conversation in a social setting, ecxhange information and experiences with people of other cultures, and help newcomers connect with the community. Foster an accepting and informal environment in which ESL learners can speak English.

Tutor a native English speaker or high level ESL learner - The Adult Basic Education program needs tutors to assist adult learners in working towards high school diploma completion. This includes instruction in reading, writing, math, and general test taking skills.

Office Volunteer Descriptions

Evening Office Manager —Provide administrative support for students and tutors studying at the Literacy Source in Fremont.

Position Description: Personable and detail-oriented volunteers are needed to provide administrative support in the evenings. Duties include greeting students and volunteers, marking copies, answering phones and providing basic program information to callers, closing the center, and occasional special projects.

No current openings.

Resource Library Volunteer —Assist other Resource Library Volunteers in maintaining an orderly, accessible, and current collection of Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language materials on-site at the Literacy Source Learning Center in Fremont .

Outreach Volunteer —Help plan and implement outreach activities to recruit new students and volunteers for Literacy Source. Duties could include posting flyers, tabling at community events, speaking to groups and preparing outreach materials.
