Computer Instruction Services

Today, computers are in the office, at school and in the library. Knowing how to use a computer can open up more educational and job opportunities.  Literacy Source programs can teach you about using computers; see below for more information.

Computer Skills for Job-Seekers is for:

  1. Beginning/Intermediate ESL students who are specifically trying to gain computer and English skills to find job opportunities.
  2. Priority is given to students in the Workfirst program who are parents.

This class is a twice a week commitment (Monday and Wednesday 9:30-11:30am).

Computer Skills Workshops are for:

  1. ABE and ESL students who need an introduction to computers, or who want to improve their computer skills. Computer workshops are open to students of all skill levels. Students that want to learn more after class can work with one of our Computer Tutors to continue their studies.

The schedule for these workshops varies. Please contact Literacy Source for the current schedule.

Computer Tutoring is for:

  1. Adult Learners who want to work one-to-one on their specific learning needs and goals. This might include basic computer skills, using programs like Word and Excel, researching educational and job opportunities, writing resumes, and much more.
  2. Priority is given to students already studying basic literacy skills or involved in other programs (like Citizenship and EDP), including people on the Basic Student Waiting List at Literacy Source.
  3. Tutoring is also available to former Literacy Source students who are now working or involved in other educational and community services and want to improve their computer skills to succeed.

This is a once a week, one hour commitment.

Rosetta Stone English Practice is for:

  1. Any ESL adult learners who would like to increase their English skills by studying independently using Literacy Source computers and this language learning software.
  2. This program covers reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for beginning, intermediate and advanced level students.

GED-i On-line Preparation is for:

  1. Any ABE learners at Literacy Source who are working toward their GED and are already comfortable with computers.
  2. Students whose schedule does not allow for attendance at regular classes or for those attending classes/tutoring who need more practice.  This program can be helpful for students who are already working with a tutor, but need more structure to work toward their GED.
  3. Those who are motivated to work at their own pace and take pre- and post- tests in preparation for the GED.
