English As A Second Language (ESL)

Learn English at Literacy Source

If you are an adult immigrant or refugee and want help learning to speak, read, write and understand English, Literacy Source may be able to help you. Our services are free to eligible students, who are taught by trained volunteers and staff . You can study by yourself, with one teacher, with a small group, or in a larger class.

ESL Classes at our center –At our Learning Center in Fremont, you can learn in a small class of fewer than 10 students. Trained volunteers will teach you about all kinds of language skills and make sure you get the specific attention you need for what you want to learn. After registering, you can start going to class anytime during the session. The classes meet once or twice a week.  To learn more click here.

ESL Classes in Tukwila and SeaTac – If you are an immigrant or refugee living in Tukwila or SeaTac, you can free ESL classes there to speak, read, write and understand English better. Beginners and more experienced English learners are all welcome at classes. The classes will also help you learn about American culture and customs and teach you about life and work skills you will need in the United States.  To learn more click here.

ESL Class for Eritrean Women – Eritrean women can attend free ESL classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Classes are provided in partnership with the National Union of Eritrean Women of Seattle (NUEWS), and are held at their center in North Seattle.  To learn more click here.

ESL Tutoring –Immigrants and refugees who are low income and want to learn English may meet with a volunteer tutor twice a week for1 ½ hours each time. If you learn with a tutor, you should also go to ESL classes if you can.  To learn more click here.

Independent Study with Rosetta Stone Software –You can study English independently using Literacy Source computers and language learning software called Rosetta Stone. You can sign up sign up for a Computer Tutoring session to learn how the computer program works and then study English on the computer at times that work for you.  To learn more click here.

At Literacy Source, we provide free ESL classes and tutoring first to the students who need it most, including people who don't have enough English skills to be self-sufficient in their community or who can't get to classes for financial, family or work reasons. We don't always have enough space or teachers to teach English to everyone.
