Community Literacy
The Community Literacy Project can increase access to instruction for underserved adult learners by providing classes in your neighborhood. Community Partners have included schools, libraries, community based organizations, churches, clinics, and housing sites.
The Community Literacy Project provides critically underserved adults the chance to develop life and work skills and learn about American culture, customs, and citizenship through English. With improved basic skills, learners can more easily access transportation, housing, healthcare, and employment support.
Community Partners share our dedication to increasing access to literacy instruction. With complementary missions and combined resources and expertise, Literacy Source and our Partners achieve more than we could accomplish alone. Generally, Literacy Source seeks funding to provide class coordination, instruction, and classroom materials. Community Partners provide a funding match with space, access to computers, and student support.
The Community Literacy Project was developed in 2006 with Venture Funding from the United Way of King County. Past Community Partners have included the Refugee and Immigrant Family Center, Neighborhood House, the Salvation Army's Silvercrest Residences, and the Northwest Somali Community Center.
